Sophisticated Digital Piano from the Yamaha Arius Line

With its generously multi-sampled 9' Yamaha CFX concert grand, smooth-playing GH3 graded keyboard with non-slip tactile keytops, and effortless LCD navigation, the Yamaha YDP-184 is the best-sounding, best-performing Arius so far. Dive into 24 instrument voices and record up to 250 original pieces via the onboard 16-track recorder. Or control virtual instruments from your computer or tablet using the 184's native USB to Host/USB to Device connectivity. The Stereophonic Optimizer or enhanced VRM resonance modeling through powerful 2 x 30W speakers create a realistic, immersive soundstage whether you're practicing with headphones or performing unplugged. A matching bench and music rest and 3-pedal board with half-damper support are included in this package

Steps up from the YDP-181:

  • Yamaha CFX piano sampling — you get the bold, rich sound of one of Yamaha's most respected concert grands in the Arius YDP-184
  • 256-note polyphony — Greater polyphony yields great realism through resonance, pedal effects, and multiple key and velocity samples
  • Enhanced Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM) — You'll swear you hear strings resonating inside a soundboard thanks to Yamaha's better-than-ever VRM
  • New user interface with LCD — A new user interface and easy-navigating LCD makes finding voices and adjusting settings easier than ever
  • 250 song, 16 track recorder — Keep track of all your musical ideas with Arius's powerful new onboard multitrack MIDI recorder

Yamaha 9' CFX concert grand

Yamaha's multi-sampled CFX concert grand, featured here in the Yamaha Arius YDP-184, is the next best thing to sitting behind a full-sized Yamaha CFX. All the hallmarks are here in living color: the expressive pianissimo, the characteristic brightness and power, the sweet, singing sustain, and the rich tonal palette. Stereo speakers with dual 30W amplifiers and Yamaha's onboard Virtual Resonance Modeling provide a good approximation of sitting down at a real piano to perform. And for an even more convincing playing experience, Arius's Stereophonic Optimizer crafts the sound through headphones for haunting realism.

24 instrument voices

Hearing strings in your head as you compose? Electric piano? The Arius YDP-184's 24 onboard voices build muscle and tendons onto your musical skeletons.

Onboard 16-track recorder

Don't let those song and arrangement ideas escape you. The Arius YDP-184's onboard 16-track MIDI recorder captures up to 250 pieces for safe storage or later tweaking.

Traditional upright design makes a fine first impression

Before you even get your hands on the Yamaha Arius YDP-184, you'll be stunned by its richly-finished rosewood cabinet and elegant appointments. These give the Arius an inviting acoustic allure that won't look out of place in a living room, teaching studio, recital hall, or house of worship. Includes a matching rosewood bench for a traditional look.

GH3 graded hammer action plays more like an acoustic piano

Sweetwater pianists were impressed with the last-generation Ariuses' GH and GHS action. The YDP-184's Graded Hammer Action 3 (GH3) keybed feels even better than before, with keys that swing back faster with better weight to respond to fast arpeggios and dynamic performances. Players who are used to practicing on an acoustic piano will have an easier time transitioning to the 184's action; students will learn better technique to take them to the recital hall and beyond.

Amazing for the price

This thing feels and plays amazing. The voices available are great and honestly the max volume is fine. Easy to use and was a great replacement for a very old and not well maintained acoustic upright. Thankfully these don't go out of tune.

I've played many 9' concert grands and, while this certainly doesn't feel THAT good, its more than enough for a beginner or an advanced played looking for something convenient and compact to practice or entertain on.

Piano for a beginner

The good
Wanted a digital piano that would be as close as possible to a real piano from looks, key feel, and sound. The Yamaha YDP184 got all 3 very well. Assembly was straight forward and took about 90 minutes.

The bad
I thought the volume would be higher as had considered the lower model but got this one because had more amps, would have been really disappointed with 164. The routing of cables could be better planned than a couple of plastic routers that stick on with double sided tape.
