Perfect for Playing Onstage and at Home!

The Korg SP-280 digital stage piano follows closely in the footsteps of the popular SP-250, providing you with excellent sounds, exceptional feel, and easy portability - all for a price that's too good to pass up. Loaded with over 30 top-notch sounds, you can call up anything from grand pianos and EPs to organs and strings on your SP-280, even layering sounds with ease. An impressive 2 x 22W stereo sound system makes playing at home or small gigs extremely simple, and at a touch under 42 lbs., you'll have no reservations whatsoever about gigging out with your Korg SP-280 digital piano.

Korg SP-280 Digital Stage Piano at a Glance:
  • Thirty rich, detailed, and expressive sounds onboard
  • Powerful full-range stereo speaker system built in
  • Great for gigging, but also for home practice and lessons
Thirty rich, detailed, and expressive sounds onboard

When you start tickling the ivories on your Korg SP-280 keyboard, you're far from limited to acoustic piano sounds. That's because Korg loaded this portable performance piano with a total of 30 wonderfully expressive instruments. Choose from electric pianos, organs, clavs, and more. Not only does the SP-280 provide you with full and realistic sound, it also delivers subtleties such as key release noise, and other ambient incidentals that make each sound come alive.

Powerful full-range stereo speaker system built in

Onstage or in your parlor, the SP-280's onboard stereo sound system delivers all the sound you desire, without the need for an external amplifier. In fact, the SP-280 keyboard's 2 x 22W speaker system is more than powerful enough to hold its own in smaller venues, making it perfect for cafe and bar gigs. And if you need to run to the PA, don't worry, Korg also equipped the SP-280 with standard 1/4" outputs.

Great for gigging, but also for home practice and lessons

One of the wonderful things about the SP-280 is its delightfully lightweight construction. Even with the stand, the SP-280 weighs under 42 lbs., which is impressive for a piano with a naturally weighted hammer-action keybed. In addition to the standard layer mode, the SP-280 also gives you a convenient partner mode, which allows you to split the keybed into two identical parts - perfect for playing with a student or teacher. On top of that, there are two headphone outputs onboard, allowing you to play with a partner, without disturbing the rest of the house.

Korg SP-280 Digital Stage Piano Features:
  • A great feeling and wonderful sounding digital stage piano you can take to any gig
  • Full 88-note Natural Weighted Hammer Action (NH) keybed provides heavier action in the lower register and lighter action in the high note for super-realistic acoustic piano feel
  • Loaded with 30 extremely realistic instrument sounds, including acoustic pianos, electric pianos, organs, clavs, harpsichord, strings, and more
  • Damper resonance, key release noise, and other details add to the realistic sound
  • Powerful 2 x 22W stereo sound system is perfect for use at home and for small gigs
  • Partner mode keyboard splitting and dual headphone jacks provide great resources for taking or giving piano lessons
  • Lightweight design (only 42 lbs.) is ideal for gigging
Play out with style with a Korg SP-280 digital stage piano!

Very nice, best speakers

I've had my white SP 280 for about 4 years now? There is room for improvement, but all in all it serves it's purpose. The speakers are loud. 22w. Just used it for my student's piano recital at a church. I had technical difficulties with my mixer, so I didn't even connect the piano to my JBL tower speakers (also from Sweetwater). The sound was extremely adequate in the sanctuary. So I will keep it, and next recital will be at a location with an acoustic piano. The SP is NOT very portable because of the legs. They are removable, though. But there's not an SP gig bag that I'm aware of anyway The legs DO add to the sturdiness and sleekness of the keyboard.
Even without too much abuse, the middle D and E keys became very clacky early in its life. I am looking to replace with another piano because of this, and better portability, but don't want to give up the on board speakers, and haven't found anything better even in slightly higher price ranges.
Recommendations I would make to Korg would be fix the clacky key issue ( one of my students bought an SP at my recommendation, and those two keys are starting to do the same thing), change the music rest (it can leave marks on the wall), add maybe some cheesy horn sounds, add an audio input to the front, have a USB MIDI input instead of the 16-pin kind, and make it more portable.
I gave it 5 stars because I do think it's a really nice piano. I guess maybe if it was a little cheaper, the clacky keys wouldn't bother me so much.

For the Money.......

I've had this slab for a couple years now therefore I believe I can give an accurate review as the honeymoon period is over. It's an excellent keyboard for the money. Period. Action isn't bad at all. It's actually pretty decent for this price range. The sounds are very very good when amplified. No frills or gimmicks, no plethora of useless plasticky sounds or features that are not needed. It's nowhere close to my rd2000 of course but it is much better than the dgx660 I have to play often (i.e. useless features and sounds). You pay for what you get and that is a very solid basic platform that is actually good enough to gig with. I can go from my rd2000 to the sp280 seamlessly where I have trouble going from the rd2000 to other much pricier keyboards. I have been and still am impressed overall with this keyboard.

Great Digital Piano !!!

Excellent Digitial Piano

unlike the previous reviewer, I am actually a professional and not using this as a midi controller. First of all, it is not a grand piano with "hammer" action. I paid $560 for mine and it is an excellent apartment digital piano for someone that does not want a console.
2nd, the speakers are better than any thing else in its price range- forget about 22 watt speakers vs 6 or 8 watt speakers the sound is clear.
Piano sample- it sounds natural and pleasant unlike an electronic sounding Casio. Is it Ivory? No? It is very good though.
The bottom line is if you are looking for something $500-$600 all in one unit and not a console than consider this.

Korg SP-280

Easy to assemble (by my self) and after a quick read of the manual -played thru the sound options A-ok The overall sound is great for the money--The only addition would be some rhythm beats.
