Smaller-sized Classic Jumbo Delivers Big Volume and Portability

The J-200 EC Studio Parlor from Epiphone puts that classic Jumbo tone in your hands at a slightly smaller size — ideal for younger players or those simply wanting a smaller-sized guitar for travel. Despite its smaller size, the J-200 EC Studio Parlor sacrifices nothing on tone, feel, and performance. It features a solid spruce top with an ovangkol body that delivers big, full, rich sound. The hard maple neck with walnut center stringer and the pau ferro fingerboard offer incredible response and feel for hours of comfortable strumming or fingerpicking. And when you are ready to plug in, an onboard Fishman Presys II preamp and Sonicore pickup deliver stellar amplified acoustic tone.

Beauty, tone, and playability

The Epiphone J-200 EC Studio Parlor's neck is cut to a comfortable, rounded SlimTaper "C" profile that guitarists here at Sweetwater love for its response and feel. The pau ferro fingerboard is smooth, resilient, balanced, and ideal for aggressive open strumming or subtle fingerpicking. In addition, the fingerboard is bound for an extremely smooth and comfortable feel that enhances the J-200 EC Studio Parlor's playability.

A tradition lives on

The Gibson Jumbo is one of the most iconic acoustic guitars in American music history. It first appeared in 1937 and has won over countless players with its bold volume. Before the advent of the amplifier, big volume was a must. The Epiphone J-200 EC Studio Parlor continues the legacy of this seminal acoustic by offering all the original Jumbo's big tone and bold projection in a smaller body, so players of various ages, abilities, and styles can enjoy all it has to offer — at a great price!

Epiphone J-200 EC Studio Parlor Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:

  • Smaller-sized acoustic-electric gives you the tone, volume, and playability of an American classic
  • Solid spruce top with an ovangkol body delivers big, full, rich sound
  • Hard maple neck with walnut center stringer and pau ferro fingerboard offer incredible response and feel
  • Fishman Presys II preamp and Sonicore pickup deliver stellar amplified acoustic tone
  • Compensated bone saddle and bone nut support tone and resonance
  • Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners keep you in tune and provide a classic look

Not a Parlor Guitar but a great 00 Size Guitar

I was greatly disappointed in an Alvarez travel guitar I had purchased elsewhere. It wouldn't stay in tune and sounded like a toy so I searched for a "parlor guitar", something very portable. I had in the last year purchased an Epiphone J45 and Hummingbird both from the inspired by Gibson series and had been tremendously impressed by every aspect of those guitars. On Sweetwater I searched for an Epiphone parlor and this one came up. I knew right away that it wasn't really a parlor guitar, it's way too big! However I decided a 00 could be nice and went ahead and purchased it.
Now for the review: I haven't played it plugged in yet. However the sound it produces is excellent for a smaller bodied guitar with a laminated back. It doesn't Sing like angels like the Hummingbird or have the throaty punch of the J45 but it's a nice midrange tone that won't overpower your voice in an intimate setting. The neck is an absolute dream to play on. I have loved the slightly smaller scale on the necks of my previous Epiphone purchases but this one plays even faster and smoother. Right out of the box the guitar was perfect, beautifully made, a looker, that plays perfectly, great action, no fret buzz, always stays in tune. When I will perform in a larger venue I'll plug it in. The electronics are more sophisticated than those on the higher end Epiphones. Plugged in the acoustic sound of a guitar becomes quite irrelevant. Once plugged in, making electronic adjustments to the sound, a cheap guitar sounds as good as the highest end guitar. However for recording I wouldn't recommend this guitar, unless you you plug it in like a solid body guitar. Recording with a mic, it's acoustic voice, while acceptable for a small setting isn't beautiful enough for recording. I understand that this isn't a big seller. That's due to the guitar be misrepresented as a parlor guitar. Epiphone should promote it as a great mini-Jumbo 00.
Music background: Plunking away for close to 50 years. I use music as an accompaniment to my teaching and play small venues.

Comfort, Style and Tone!

I have owned a number of guitars with several in the parlor size. This guitar is different from the rest. Stunning looks complement fast and easy play. Projects more sound than you would expect for its size. Plug in the Fishman pickup system and Whoa! This guitar sounds amazing playing finger style or strumming.

This is the first guitar I ever ordered from Sweetwater. I am impressed. I love being able to choose the exact guitar among others of the same model. Sure beats digging through different boxes to find "the one". Took away the mail order anxiety because I knew exactly what to expect. No surprises.

I do my own setup. The beauty this time was there was far less to tweak for my preferences. Sweetwater had my back. I changed the strings to a 13-56 set and tuned down a half step as is my custom. Full sounding and responsive. I am excited to gig and write with this baby for years to come. There are songs in there!

Fantastic guitar from Epiphone

This beautiful parlor, coupe guitar from Epi is simply a wonderful guitar. It sounds rich and resonates with
warm tones (whether plugged or unplugged.) The build quality is excellent and the finish was perfect. This is my first acoustic and a perfect companion for my wonderful Tele. I love the smaller size as well. Great set up from Sweetwater as usual. They're the best !!
