Great on toms and bass cabinets!

I'm very happy with the sound i got with this mic on toms.
Rated 2.5/5

Very dull

I absolutely can't get a good tone from this mic. I bought it specifically for floor tom applications (which many reviews have suggested it should excel) and as an alternate for kick drum. But here's my issue with the tone of this mic: it sounds very drab and dull. Knowing it's hypercardioid, it will be a little more sensitive to position than a standard cartioid mic pattern. But regardless of position (center-firing & off axis at various angles and distances), I just couldn't find a good position. It sounds very much like a very old AT mic I bought for $25 about 12 years ago. Imagine all the "thud" of the low end (200 Hz-700 Hz) with none of that "thwack" in the 2-5 kHz. range.

I'll keep experimenting but I just can't believe a mic at this price point could sound this lifeless. The only good part is the off-axis rejection is fairly good.
